What is KYBELLA®, and how can it help with a double-chin?
KYBELLA® is an injectable treatment made with a synthetic form of deoxycholic acid, a naturally occurring molecule in the body that helps break down and absorb the fats you eat in your diet. When injected into fatty areas (such as the fat beneath your chin), it helps break down fat cells, so they can no longer accumulate fat, leading to a reduction in fullness under the chin.
“Many treatments can be done to help create a sculpted jawline, and KYBELLA® is often an excellent choice. That being said, not everyone is a candidate, so consultation with an experienced dermatologist is key to assessing whether or not you will respond to treatment,” says Dr. Daniel Schlessinger, board-certified dermatologist, Mohs surgeon and cosmetic surgeon.
Dr. Joel Schlessinger has been working with KYBELLA® for over fifteen years and has a great deal of experience in what it can and can’t do. “There are certain chins that respond well to KYBELLA® and some that won’t, but the key is knowing the difference. The fact that we have three methods of fat removal, including Kybella, CoolSculpting ELITE and SmartLipo, means we are poised to help more patients sculpt their ideal chin and neck areas,” he says.
Will I experience side effects with KYBELLA® injections?
If you are a candidate for KYBELLA®, Drs. Joel or Daniel Schlessinger will create a treatment plan that can include anywhere from two to six treatment sessions. When you receive KYBELLA® injections, they will perform a series of small injections under your chin to the desired area, with results visible after approximately one month, and improvement after each session.
Side effects range from person to person, but you will likely experience some swelling with a KYBELLA® treatment, as well as bruising, pain or numbness. At Schlessinger MD, we will numb the area with a numbing cream prior to injection so treatment is as painless as possible. After determining where to place the treatment, we perform a series of injections. “It is a quick and targeted procedure that only takes about three minutes,” Dr. Daniel Schlessinger says.
