Your consultation

Patients who want to get a Dysport® treatment to address common signs of aging will first need to schedule a consultation. At your consultation visit, you’ll meet one-on-one with our Patient Coordinator and with Dr. Schlessinger to review your medical history and current health. We’ll discuss your areas of concern, along with your goals and expectations, and develop a treatment plan to deliver you the best results possible.

During your consultation, after we’ve taken photos and assessed your concerns, we will review any questions you might have and the treatment plan, and we’ll discuss alternative treatments that you might be a good candidate for and that can help you achieve the results you are looking for. Any concerns that you may have about the treatment will be addressed before your treatment.

First-time injection patients can take advantage of our new patient special that is available only during the consultation appointment. These patients can save up to $300 off BOTOX® and wrinkle filler injections if they choose to move forward with an injection treatment during their visit.

Dysport® aftercare

There is no recovery period, or downtime, involved with Dysport® treatments, and the sessions are fairly short. Dysport® injections can easily be done during your lunch break and you can return to work right away.

Dysport® (pronounced DIS-port) is an FDA-approved wrinkle relaxer formally known as botulinum toxin A, similar to BOTOX®, but slightly different in several ways. It takes effect quicker and lasts longer. From frown lines to crow’s feet, Dysport® injections can help improve the appearance of your wrinkles. Additionally, it has a slightly wider area of spread, leading to a smoother look of the upper forehead in comparison to other wrinkle relaxers.

With a few tiny injections, Dysport® will take effect over a period of days to banish frown lines and many other telltale signs of aging, refreshing your natural look.

Dysport® is used to smooth frown lines and wrinkles between the eyebrows, known as glabellar lines. Dysport® can also smooth crow’s feet around the eyes and forehead wrinkles.

Given Dr. Schlessinger’s extensive experience with Dysport®, it isn’t surprising that he is one of the largest users of it in the country, with remarkable results. Dr. Schlessinger personally injects all of his Dysport® and fillers to ensure you are in the best of hands at Schlessinger MD.

Frown lines or wrinkles form because the muscles that control your facial expressions are used often, sometimes resulting in a habit and a line that signifies the overuse of these muscles. When you frown or smile or laugh, those facial muscles tighten and relax, over and over. When Dysport® is injected, the nerves that control facial expression are inactivated, which allows the muscles to relax for up to 3 months or longer.

Talk with Dr. Schlessinger prior to your procedure about your goals for using Dysport® and feel free to ask any other questions regarding cosmetic procedures. Dr. Schlessinger and his patient coordinator are very willing to answer questions and want to hear from you if you have any.

If you want to reduce the appearance of wrinkles around your eyes and on your forehead, Dysport® may be an outstanding choice. Your results will depend on your overall goal and suitability. Dr. Schlessinger is very good about letting patients know if they are good candidates for treatments.

After the treatment, you will see a relaxing of the frown lines and wrinkles between your eyebrows (the “11” lines as some people refer to them) and on your forehead in as early as 3 to 4 days. Sometimes it can take up to a week for the full treatment to take effect.

During the national clinical trial of Dysport® that Dr. Schlessinger participated in, he observed that most patients saw results as quickly as 2 to 3 days post injection. Also, most of his patients experienced their treatment results lasting longer (up to 3 months or longer) than many other treatments.

  1. A patient coordinator will show you around the office to acquaint you with the facility where you will have your treatment.
  2. You will have a consultation in the comfortable and high-tech office of the patient coordinator, meeting with Dr. Schlessinger to answer any questions you might have.
  3. The doctor’s office staff will take photographs to show you where your wrinkles may be improved and discuss treatment options with you. These photos will be used to compare with the results 2 weeks later at your no-charge follow-up appointment.
  4. Your facial area and planned site for the injections will be cleaned and a topical numbing solution will be applied.
  5. Dr. Schlessinger will personally perform the injections. At Schlessinger MD, the only individual who works on you is the doctor – no nurses or other staff members administer BOTOX®, Dysport®, or fillers as is the practice in many other offices. Dr. Schlessinger is very proud of the results he obtains, and this is one of the reasons he has been voted Best Cosmetic Surgeon and Dermatologist in Omaha, Nebraska since 2000.
  6. The actual injections are quick and nearly painless with the use of numbing topically and Dr. Schlessinger’s excellent technique.

BOTOX®, a registered brand name for botulinum toxin A produced by the company Allergan, is available, as well as Jeuveau® and Xeomin®. Others are currently being researched and developed.

Having treated thousands of patients with Dysport® during clinical trials and in his private practice, Dr. Schlessinger says Dysport® lasts longer than BOTOX® and other wrinkle relaxers, in general.

Other products can reduce wrinkles in additional areas of your face including those from the Restylane® family of fillers, JUVEDÉRM® collection of fillers and other cosmetic treatments.

The most common side effects are these (you may have none of these side effects):

  • Headache
  • Eyelid swelling
  • Eyelid drooping

Dysport® shouldn’t be used if you are pregnant or breastfeeding and should be avoided if you have a history of myasthenia gravis or other muscular disorders. While it contains lactose, it isn’t absorbed by the GI tract so it is okay to use even if you are lactose intolerant.

Dysport® is approved by the FDA for adults younger than 65, but that doesn’t mean that patients older than 65 can’t use it. Talk with Dr. Schlessinger during your consultation about whether this procedure is right for you.

If you have been treated for muscle spasms or have underlying medical conditions that would make some of the side effects more likely, notify your doctor as you may not be a candidate.

This treatment is also not suitable for patients who are currently undergoing treatment for critical illnesses, are currently pregnant, or are currently breastfeeding. Any skin infections or recent injuries must be fully addressed before treatment.
