CoolSculpting® has long been the treatment of choice for doctors when it comes to nonsurgical fat reduction. Starting with the treatment of stubborn fat on the flanks in 2010, the CoolSculpting® team has continued to innovate, which is where CoolSculpting® ELITE comes in.
First introduced in 2021, CoolSculpting® ELITE is their most advanced technology, and has been offered at SchlessingerMD since its launch. Board-certified dermatologist, cosmetic surgeon and Mohs surgeon, Dr. Joel Schlessinger is the first cosmetic surgeon in the Midwest to offer CoolSculpting® ELITE as well as less time-consuming options, such as dual-sculpting, but is it the right treatment for you? Read on to find out:
- What is CoolSculpting® ELITE, and how does it differ from standard CoolSculpting®?

What is CoolSculpting® ELITE, and how does it differ from standard CoolSculpting®?
In order to best understand the advantages of CoolSculpting® ELITE, it’s important to know what CoolSculpting® is at its core. Dr. Joel Schlessinger says:
“CoolSculpting® is an FDA-approved, non-invasive treatment that gently eliminates stubborn fat in targeted areas of the body using advanced cooling technology. Requiring no incisions or anesthesia, this treatment slims and tones the abdomen, flanks, arms and thighs by freezing fat cells. The frozen fat cells are then gradually expelled from the body through its natural metabolic processes while the healthy skin cells stay intact. The best part is this treatment requires no downtime!”
While both forms of CoolSculpting® are FDA-cleared to treat nine areas of the body, including the abdomen, under the chin, upper arms, thighs, bra line, back, underneath the buttocks, below the jawline and the flanks, the benefits of CoolSculpting® ELITE stem from its use of new treatment applicators and the ease and comfort of these applicators. In standard CoolSculpting®, only one applicator is used to treat one area of the body at a time, whereas CoolSculpting® ELITE utilizes two applicators per machine to treat two areas at once.
Furthermore, the CoolSculpting® ELITE system features multiple shapes and sizes of applicators for improved fit and comfort. This includes the Curve, Flat and Surface applicators, which are designed to conform to each individual’s body contours. It can also use a c-shaped applicator, which offers improved suction to keep the targeted region in place.
Dr. Joel Schlessinger says, “With CoolSculpting®® Elite, providers can perform DualSculpting, where two applicators are used simultaneously to treat two separate areas of the body.” This makes procedure times much faster, shortening treatments from approximately one hour to 35 minutes.
He continues, “It also provides greater comfort levels with 45 percent less discomfort than original CoolSculpting®. Best of all, the new treatment applicators feature a larger cooling area for the ability to treat ten percent more tissue at a deeper level, allowing for greater efficacy—all with less likelihood of side effects.”
When deciding whether or not CoolSculpting® is right for you, potential candidates should keep in mind the treatment is not a weight loss procedure, as it rids the body of fat cells completely instead of shrinking them as dieting and exercise would. For this reason, CoolSculpting® and CoolSculpting® ELITE treatments are ideal for those interested in targeted fat reduction, not weight loss.
Board-certified dermatologist, cosmetic surgeon and Mohs surgeon Dr. Daniel Schlessinger says, “Patients must be at or near their target weight and BMI before undergoing any CoolSculpting® treatment, as weight fluctuations after the procedure can negatively impact results. We see many patients who have been on GLP-1 inhibitors yet still have a small amount of unwanted fat. These treatments are popular for a reason, and they’re suitable for most patients looking to reduce stubborn fat without undergoing invasive surgical procedures.”
