Innovative dermatology, centered on you

An Omaha native, Daniel Schlessinger, MD is a distinguished dermatologist specializing in Mohs micrographic surgery and cosmetic dermatology. He brings a wealth of expertise and innovation to Schlessinger MD. His comprehensive approach, combined with cutting-edge techniques and a patient-centric philosophy, ensures that every individual receives the highest standard of dermatological treatment.

A graduate of Millard North High School, Dr. Schlessinger attended Northwestern University’s prestigious Honor’s Program in Medical Education with Honors in Classics, followed by medical school at Northwestern University’s Feinberg School of Medicine. After medical school, he completed a rigorous Preliminary-Medicine internship year at Harvard’s Massachusetts General Hospital, followed by dermatology residency at Barnes-Jewish Hospital / Washington University in St. Louis, where he served as Chief Resident. He then returned to Northwestern University to complete a dual-accredited fellowship in Mohs micrographic surgery as well as cosmetic dermatologic surgery. This intensive training equips him with advanced skills in skin cancer removal and facial reconstruction, ensuring optimal outcomes for his patients.

In addition to clinical patient care, Dr. Schlessinger remains active in academic research, product development, and medical writing. After coming up with the idea for a medicated lip balm at age 12, he co-founded FixMySkin Healing Balms with his dad and grandfather and successfully obtained two patents for the 1% hydrocortisone balm formulation. He is considered by many to be a thought leader and national expert on the subject of artificial intelligence in dermatology. He has published dozens of articles and co-authored several book chapters on dermatology, dermatologic surgery, and artificial intelligence. He regularly lectures at local, regional, and national academic conferences and remains active in clinical research regarding dermatologic oncology and surgical reconstruction. He serves on the Editorial Board of the Journal of the American Academy of Dermatology and Practical Dermatology and is a regular peer reviewer for Dermatologic Surgery, the Journal of the American Academy of Dermatology, the Journal of Investigative Dermatology, the British Medical Journal, JAAD Case Reports, and the International Journal of Women’s Dermatology. He sits on the American Academy of Dermatology’s Augmented Intelligence Committee and has previously served on the AAD’s Clinical Guidelines Committee. He is a regular commentary author for the American Academy of Dermatology’s Dialogues in Dermatology podcast series. He is also a creator and editor of the first interactive digital whole-slide Mohs pathology textbook, available via PathPresenter.

Daniel and his wife, Stephanie, enjoy spending time with their mini-Aussiedoodle, Mischief, as well as yoga, traveling, and trivia.

To be board certified, a doctor must complete additional standards beyond basic licensing and actively keep pace with the latest advances in their specialty to maintain their board certification. The latest advances mean the best options for you and your health.
