Dr. Daniel Schlessinger, a board-certified dermatologist, Mohs surgeon and cosmetic surgeon, explains, “BBL® HEROic™ is one of my favorite pulsed light therapy treatments for improving the appearance of dark spots, redness, vascular lesions, sun damage and other types of discoloration on both the face and body.”

What is BBL® HEROic™?
BBL® HEROic™, which stands for BroadBand Light High Energy Rapid Output with Intelligent Control, is an advanced IPL (intense pulsed light) treatment designed to deliver fast, effective results for a wide range of skin concerns. This cutting-edge therapy essentially flashes bright light onto the skin to break up excessive pigmentation and superficial blood vessels in the skin. The end result is a brighter, more even-looking complexion.
Dr. Joel Schlessinger, board-certified dermatologist, Mohs surgeon and cosmetic surgeon, explains, “BBL® HEROic™ offers a quick and comfortable way to achieve healthier-looking skin in as little as one to three treatments. A variety of light filters provide customizable treatment options for discoloration and sun damage, as well as rosacea, vascular lesions and visible signs of aging.”
He adds, “BBL® HEROic™ works well for almost all skin types and can be used to treat discoloration and signs of aging almost anywhere on the body, including face, neck, chest, arms, legs, back and abdomen.”
How is BBL® HEROic™ different from the original BBL® laser treatment?
While the original BBL HERO has long been celebrated for its ability to improve skin tone and texture, BBL® HEROic™ takes these results to the next level. Building on the success of BBL HERO, the next-generation BBL® HEROic™ offers all the same benefits with additional features to enhance treatment accuracy and maximize results.
A standout feature of BBL® HEROic™ is its Intelligent Control (IC) and Skin Positioning System™ (SPS™) technology, allowing for more accurate and comfortable treatments that are also quicker. In fact, BBL® HEROic™ delivers up to four times the speed and three times the power of previous BBL® devices.
BBL® HEROic™ also features ComfortCool technology, offering twice the cooling capabilities for skin that stays cool and comforted during your treatment session—no numbing cream necessary.
Dr. Joel Schlessinger shares, “These advancements mean patients can achieve better results in less time, with minimal or no discomfort. It’s truly a game-changer for anyone looking to rejuvenate their skin.”
What can you expect during your BBL® HEROic™ treatment?
If you’re new to BBL® HEROic™, you’ll be happy to know that the treatment process is quick and comfortable. Before your session, your provider will meet with you to discuss your goals, assess your skin and customize your treatment.
During your session, a handheld device is used to deliver pulses of light to the treatment area. You may feel a mild warming sensation or a gentle snap on the skin. The treatment typically lasts fifteen to thirty minutes, depending on the size of the area being treated. Since the procedure is non-invasive, there’s no downtime or open wounds and most patients can return to their daily activities right away.
After your treatment, it’s normal to experience some mild redness, which usually subsides within a few hours. Over the following weeks, you’ll notice dark spots and discoloration fading as your skin becomes smoother, clearer and more radiant. Your dermatologist or provider may recommend a series of treatments spaced several weeks apart for the best results.
